All LitterMaid systems are specially designed for households with more than one cat.  Each of  the units can successfully accommodate up to three cats.  Litter Maid systems are available in three models: the LitterMaid LM900 Mega Self-Cleaning Litter Box, the LitterMaid LME9000 Elite Mega Advanced Self-Cleaning Litter Box, and the LitterMaid Elite Mega Automatic Self-Cleaning Litter Box.  All these units have unique qualities that will be discussed below.

The lowest cost model, the LitterMaid LM900 consists of a tray that holds the litter.  When a cat enters the box, a sensor takes note of this, and after ten minutes, the rake that removes clumps will begin to function.  The rake will push the clumps into a container at the rear of the box, which will be sealed until the next visit by your cat.  The rake will cease operation if your cat visits the box while it is running. The waste receptacles can either be used permanently or can be considered disposable.   You will find that a  clay based cat litter will work best with the LitterMaid LM900.  Reviews of this litter box are mixed, with some people loving it and others dissatisfied.

The LitterMaid LME9000 Elite Mega Advanced Self-Cleaning Litter Box is the next step up offered by this company.  This litter box also operates after the cat has triggered a sensor while visiting.  After 10 minutes, the rake will begin to operate and will deposit clumps of waste into the rear container.  This unit comes with 4 carbon air filters to help keep the unit odorless and 4 disposable waste containers.   It should be borne in mind that you must buy replacement waste containers, the containers that come with the unit are not considered to be reusable.  The LitterMaid LME9000 can be plugged into the wall socket or batteries can be used if desired.   This model received better reviews than the above, most people were satisfied with it.

At the top of the LitterMaid line is the LitterMaid Elite Mega Automatic Self-Cleaning Litter Box.  As with the other LitterMaid products, a sensor triggers the steel rake to clean the box after your cats has finished.  The waste is shunted to a container under the box.  As with the other models, any touch on the rake will cause it to retract, ensuring your cat’s safety.  The LitterMaid Elite Mega has a very nice feature – the rake shuts down for 9 hours at night, but to make sure that your morning air is fresh, the ionic air cleaner operates every 10 minutes.  This unit has a ramp that helps trap litter from your cat’s feet, to keep your floors clean.  The LitterMaid Elite Mega was given mixed reviews by people who had purchased it.  It  operates either on household current or batteries.
