Cats are perfectly endearing creatures that make wonderful companions who lighten up our lives. However, there is one thing that can be daunting to almost any cat owner – the specter of the litter box. Unless you live in a rural setting, you need a little box of some kind to deal with waste products. Even people living in the suburbs or in the country will opt for a litter box for several reasons. Many people worry about their cat running into trouble in the form of dogs or wild animals, and will keep their cat indoors for this reason. Others worry about their cat spoiling their garden or their neighbor’s garden.

A perfect solution to the problem of the litter box is the Litter Robot LR II Automatic Self-Cleaning Litter Box. This litter box has a sifting mechanism that will automatically clean the litter after your cat has used the box. After a wait of 7 minutes, the globe that makes up the top part of the unit will begin to rotate, allowing the clumps to be separated from the rest of the litter. These clumps are then placed in the disposal drawer and a fresh bed of litter is ready for your cat’s next visit. The disposal drawer is lined with regular garbage bags found in your kitchen.

This robotic kitty litter box makes caring for your cats so much easier and leaves you with more time for interaction with them, rather than cleaning a litter box. You will also find that your home smells a good deal fresher and cleaner when you use the Litter Robot. No matter how careful you are there is simply no way, especially if you have more than one cat, to keep an ordinary litter box from causing an odor.

The Litter Robot is easy to put together, basically, the globe must be placed on the base. Once litter has been added and it is plugged in, the unit is ready for use. Customers report little, if any, difficulty in getting their cats to use the Litter Robot. The natural curiosity of the cat will lead most cats right to it to investigate. The customer reviews indicate extreme satisfaction with this litter containment unit. Perhaps the only complaint voiced was that the unit made some noise when operating, so positioning the Litter Robot away from bedrooms, especially, might be a good idea.

The Litter Robot LR II Automatic Self-Cleaning Litter Box comes with an 18 month warranty. I personally own a Litter Robot and can say hands down this is the best out of all automatic cat litter boxes EVER! It makes my life so much easier and my cats love it! Even my 4 month old siberian kitten Teddy jumped right in without even being shown the litter robot. At the time he was using a regular litter box and the Litter Robot was for our current cat Julius who took to it right away as well. They both use the litter robot and I really could not be happier! One of the best pieces of equipment I have ever purchased and it is made in the United States!

There is a wide variety of cat litter boxes to fit the needs of your cat and your pocketbook. These boxes can be as simple as a tray filled with cat litter to an automatic scooping system. Several of the best will be reviewed below.

The Omega Paw Self-Cleaning Litter Box is an ideal choice for cat owners with several cats or a very large cat. This box is a covered affair with an ample doorway for the cat to access the box. To use the box, the owner tilts the box to the right after the cat has used it. Once the top touches the floor, it can be righted. Doing this removes clumps of waste from the bed of litter and deposits them in the pullout tray. Clumping litter must be used with the Omega Paw. The litter box itself never has to be changed. This litter box requires no electricity.

The Booda Dome Cleanstep Cat Box offers the owner of the large cat a comfortable toilet. As the cat steps to use the toilet area around the corner, the chance of litter being scattered while the cat is scratching is eliminated. This litter box also keeps litter from being tracked out on your cat’s feet. A very nice feature of the Booda Dome is the built in air filter. This filter takes out almost 100% of cat box odors.

A rather different approach is taken with the Cat Genie 120 Self-Washing Self-Flushing Cat Box. This model is actually hooked up to your cold water and requires electricity. The Cat Genie uses washable granules to provide a friendly spot for your cat to use. Urine will drain through the granules and grid screen and solid waste is removed for reduction to a liquid. After that, water will fill the basin and rinse out the granules with the help of the Genie Hand and then the unit is sterilized and dried with hot air. It has received good customer reviews. This unit will sit upon your toilet.

A solution to the problem of cat box odor is found with the Bionaire Odor Grabber Litter Box. The Bionaire Odor Grabber has a litter tray and cover that includes their Bionaire Air Filter to remove odors before they can offend you. The filters are replaceable and a light will come on to show you when this needs to be done. The filter removes not only odors, but also cat hair and dander. The motor is quiet, and generally does not disturb the cat using the box. The Bionaire Odor Grabber Litter Box has gotten very good feedback from cat owners.

The Scoop Free Cat Litter Box offers the cat owner an opportunity to enjoy an odor free and hassle free litter box. The Scoop Free consists of a box unit that sits above the disposable litter tray. This litter tray, which contains Fresh Step Crystals is completely disposable, ensuring that you never come into contact with cat waste. The tray only needs to be changed after weeks of use, allowing you to enjoy the company of your cat more. The cartridge serving one cat probably will only have to be changed once in 30 days.

The Scoop Free operates with an infrared sensor that tells the whether the box is occupied. Until the ‘all clear’ is given, the automatic rake will not move. The rounded ends on the rake’s tines are an added safety feature. A sealed compartment at the end of the disposable tray will hold the solid wastes until the tray is changed.

When the tray is ready to be changed, all that is necessary for the cat owner to do is to lift the upper unit, pull out the old tray and slide in a new one. A cover is provided with every disposable tray and the old tray can then easily be thrown into the trash. The Fresh Step Crystals will instantly absorb urine and dry out solid wastes.

The first Scoop Free product to consider is the Scoop Free Automatic Litter Box Kit. This unit comes with the Scoop Free privacy hood and an extra tray cartridge.

The next step up is the Scoop Free Self-Cleaning Litter Box. This litter box is similar in design to the Scoop Free Automatic, but features a health counter and adjustable rake delay. This model also comes with a hood.

At the top of the product line is Complete Scoop Free Automatic Litter Box Kit. This kit comes with the privacy hood and 7 of the disposable cartridges containing Fresh Step Crystals. This unit, as with all the others, comes with a 90 day guarantee.

While the Scoop Free system does provide easy to use disposable cartridges, there have been complaints about them. Some people have reported that urine can leak through the cardboard cartridge and puddle on the floor. Most people have been completely satisfied with this product, however.

All LitterMaid systems are specially designed for households with more than one cat. Each of the units can successfully accommodate up to three cats. Litter Maid systems are available in three models: the LitterMaid LM900 Mega Self-Cleaning Litter Box, the LitterMaid LME9000 Elite Mega Advanced Self-Cleaning Litter Box, and the LitterMaid Elite Mega Automatic Self-Cleaning Litter Box. All these units have unique qualities that will be discussed below.

The lowest cost model, the LitterMaid LM900 consists of a tray that holds the litter. When a cat enters the box, a sensor takes note of this, and after ten minutes, the rake that removes clumps will begin to function. The rake will push the clumps into a container at the rear of the box, which will be sealed until the next visit by your cat. The rake will cease operation if your cat visits the box while it is running. The waste receptacles can either be used permanently or can be considered disposable. You will find that a clay based cat litter will work best with the LitterMaid LM900. Reviews of this litter box are mixed, with some people loving it and others dissatisfied.

The LitterMaid LME9000 Elite Mega Advanced Self-Cleaning Litter Box is the next step up offered by this company. This litter box also operates after the cat has triggered a sensor while visiting. After 10 minutes, the rake will begin to operate and will deposit clumps of waste into the rear container. This unit comes with 4 carbon air filters to help keep the unit odorless and 4 disposable waste containers. It should be borne in mind that you must buy replacement waste containers, the containers that come with the unit are not considered to be reusable. The LitterMaid LME9000 can be plugged into the wall socket or batteries can be used if desired. This model received better reviews than the above, most people were satisfied with it.

At the top of the LitterMaid line is the LitterMaid Elite Mega Automatic Self-Cleaning Litter Box. As with the other LitterMaid products, a sensor triggers the steel rake to clean the box after your cats has finished. The waste is shunted to a container under the box. As with the other models, any touch on the rake will cause it to retract, ensuring your cat’s safety. The LitterMaid Elite Mega has a very nice feature – the rake shuts down for 9 hours at night, but to make sure that your morning air is fresh, the ionic air cleaner operates every 10 minutes. This unit has a ramp that helps trap litter from your cat’s feet, to keep your floors clean. The LitterMaid Elite Mega was given mixed reviews by people who had purchased it. It operates either on household current or batteries.

A different approach to the problem of litter boxes is the Feline Pine Litter Box. This is a more low-tech approach to keeping your litter box clean and odor free, but it does work towards both these ends. The Feline Pine Litter Box consists of a lower holding tray and an insert that has a open grid bottom. A scoop is necessary to remove solid wastes from the kitty litter pan, this is not an automatic unit. However, with the Feline Pine Litter Box, you will never have to change the litter box again.

To begin using the Feline Pine Litter Box, a few handfuls of Feline Pine Cat Litter are placed in the lower tray. This will help to absorb any urine that is added before the unit is fully functioning. The top tray, with the grid, is then put onto the lower one. Several inches of Feline Pine Cat Litter are put into this upper tray. This is a pelleted litter. As your cat uses the litter box, the bottom pellets break down and are reduced to sawdust, which falls into the lower tray. You simply keep adding more Feline Pine Cat Litter to the upper tray to maintain a proper level. As such, you never need to change this litter box.

The bottom holding tray can be emptied frequently, but it is not necessary to do this, and the pellets will remain longer if you allow the bottom tray to fill completely before emptying it. You should remove solid waste with a scoop and shake the Feline Pine Litter Box to help the sawdust fall through the grid.

The Feline Pine Litter Box is best used with Feline Pine Cat Litter, which is made from pine trees and is a top quality pine cat litter. This litter is almost completely dust free and contains no chemicals that might bother you or your cat. The natural pine odor helps to cover less desirable ones and the pellets are large enough to prevent them from being carried out of the box on your cat’s feet.

A perfect accompaniment to the Feline Pine Little Box is the Wide Slot Scoop. This scoop makes removal of solid wastes easy, while saving on pellets. The heavy construction of the Wide Slot Scoop guarantees that it will last.

Customer reviews are favorable about the Feline Pine Litter Box and Feline Pine Cat Litter. The people using the litter were very happy that it eliminated odors, was easy to use, and economical. This is a great choice out of all the non-automatic kitty litter boxes.
